Great Silk Road Marathon


Khiva – Bukhara – Samarkand


This unique competition gives you an opportunity to combine unusual running event with visiting ancient cities located along the Great Silk Road. The aim of this marathon is both running and getting acquainted with masterpieces of oriental culture, remarkable historical monuments, as well as people and their traditions. More than 1000 people from different parts of the world participate in this marathon. Any healthy person who has desire and time can take part in this grandiose event.
Great Silk Road Marathon distinguishes from other traditional marathons – the distance of the Uzbek part of “Silk Marathon” is divided into several stages – 12 km 195 m in Khiva, 15 km in Bukhara and 15 km in Samarkand. Many unique monuments and architectural constructions, concentrated in these ancient cities are of a great significance to the mankind and have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Thus, the participation in Silk Road Marathon gives you the opportunity not only to improve your sport achievements, but also to marvel at great historical centres with its architectural masterpieces.

Day 01 – Urgench (Khiva) Arrival in Urgench.
Grand welcome at the boarding ramp upon arrival. Transfer to Khiva (28 km).
Ceremonial reception at the hotel. Breakfast and accommodation.
Briefing. Familiarization with the route of the race and staff from Uzbekistan.
After lunch sightseeing tour in Khiva.
Festive dinner with  gala concert and folk show in Khiva.

Day 02 Khiva Breakfast at the hotel.
Ceremonial start of race in Ichan-Kala.
The route starts by the walls of Ancient city, proceeds along the modern city and  then finishes by the walls of Ancient city (12 km 195 m).
Ceremonial finish of the race with results announcement.
Rest upon race completion at the hotel.
After lunch sightseeing tour in Khiva.
Dinner at local restaurant.
Overnight in Khiva.		 Breakfast: Hotel

Day 03 Khiva –
Bukhara

After breakfast transfer to Bukhara via Kyzyl-Kum desert (470 km).
Picnic en route.
Ceremonial reception at the hotel upon arrival in Bukhara.
Accommodation in hotel.
Rest at the hotel.
Festive dinner with show in Bukhara.
Overnight in Bukhara.

Day 04 Bukhara Breakfast at the hotel.
Ceremonial start of race in Bukhara.
The route passes near the ancient sightseeing spots of the city (15 km).

Day 05 Bukhara –
Samarkand		 After breakfast sightseeing tour in Bukhara.

Overnight in Samarkand.		 Breakfast: Hotel

Day 06 Samarkand Breakfast at the hotel.
Ceremonial start of race in Samarkand.
The route passes near the ancient sightseeing spots of the city (15 km).

Visit to the oldest part of the city: Kunya-Ark fortress, including Kurinish Khana (17c); Mohammed-Amin-Khan(19c) Madrassah, Islam Khodja Minaret; Palvan-Kari complex, Abd Al Bobo complex(18c), Rafanek Madrassah, Mohammed Rakim Khan  (19 c), Amir-Tur Madrassah, Sho-I-Kalandar Bobo Mausoleum.
Uch Avlioli («three saints») Mausoleum, Jami Mosque(18c), Kutluq-Murad Inaq (19c) Madrassah, Pakhlavan Mahmoud Mausoleum, Tash Hauli («stone yard») Palace, Alla-Kuli-Khan (18c), Arab Mohammed Khan(18 c) Madrassahs.

Bukhara:
Visit to Ismael Samani mausoleum (9-10c)-vault  of Bukhara rulers' dynasty, Chor-Minor, Chashma-Ayub Mausoleums (14 c), Visit to Old Bukhara: Poli-Kalon ensemble including Minaret (12c) , Mosque (15c), functioning Madrassah Miri-Arab (16 c), Amir-Alim-Khan Madrassah (14c), Taqi (trading domes), Kukeldash Madrassah (16c), Lyab-i-Hauz (17c), Nadir Divanbegi (17c), Magoki Attari (16c), Ulug Beg (15c), Abdul Aziz (17c) Madrassahs. Samarkand:
Shahi-Zinda necropolis (14-15c), “Stars above Samarkand” - Ulugbek observatory (15c), “Ruines of Afrosiab” -  the excavation and museum of the ancient town (6 BC-13 AD).
Visit to medieval architectural monuments: Gur-Emir Mausoleum (15c), Registan Ensemble (including Ulugbek (15c), Shir Dor (17c), Tillya-Kari Madrassahs (17c)), Bibi Khanum Mosque. Visit to Samarkand local bazaar.
